ComeHome Product Copy

ComeHome Product Copy
HouseCanary

2019-2020

As HouseCanary’s primary writer, I supported teams across the organization with writing and editing needs. ComeHome was HouseCanary’s first B2C product, available via desktop and as an Android and iOS app. The ComeHome Product team came to me for user interface copy and copyedits. I supported components including calls to action, error messages, microcopy explaining real estate terminology, and  a wizard-style chatbot. This collaboration ensured that ComeHome’s in-product copy aligned with the broader HouseCanary voice and house style.

HouseCanary Technical Briefs

Technical Briefs
HouseCanary

2019

These papers take deep dives into HouseCanary’s tools. They are written in a more professorial tone for knowledgable and motivated audiences who may or may not be experts in the given topic. I coordinated with internal data scientists and valuation operations experts to develop the material for these pieces. Expert review ensured that the final copy would answer readers’ questions precisely while still protecting proprietary technologies and practices.

Real Estate Client Case Studies

Client Case Studies
HouseCanary
2019

These are HouseCanary’s first client case studies. To begin, I developed a standardized list of conversational questions to support the desired case study format. I then interviewed key clients, transcribed and annotated our conversations, and shaped that material into brief, easy-to-read, and consistent case studies.

I worked with clients in the review process to make sure they were completely satisfied with the final results. Clients with co-branded case studies were eager to share the documents with their own customers. Others opted for anonymity to avoid tipping off competitors.

HouseCanary Awards and Announcements

Multi-Channel Awards and Announcements
HouseCanary

2019-2020

I announced HouseCanary company news for external and internal audiences with blog posts, social media updates, and emails to staff and to customers. I helped make news by submitting a successful award nomination for HousingWire’s Rising Stars 2020, a prestigious real estate industry award.

While internal and client-facing communications are usually confidential, I have permission to share some samples with you.

Chicago Backyards

Chicago Backyards, a supplement to Backyard Adventures
Chicago Academy of Sciences / Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
2017

Chicago Backyards was an in-house supplement to Backyard Adventures by SCITECH. I called upon on-staff experts in horticulture, taxidermy, and entomology for their expertise, and created these exhibits end-to-end. The final displays represent Chicagoland nature and PNNM’s mission through collections objects, living specimens, and interactives.

Sharon Bladholm’s Soils, Seeds, and Sprouts

Soils, Seeds, and Sprouts: Tropical and Temperate
Artwork by Sharon Bladholm
Chicago Academy of Sciences / Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
2017

This exhibition inspired visitors to get down to earth with an extravagant combination of 2D and 3D art in media including ceramics, glass bronze, watercolor, and etched prints. In addition to editing all label copy for this show and crafting Sharon’s bio, I put my background in mountmaking to use managing the fitting and installation of 68 brass wall mounts and 11 suspensions.

Our House

Our House: Rethinking Home in a Changing Climate
Chicago Academy of Sciences / Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum
On-site 2017, then traveling

Our House explores what climate change is, how it directly impacts communities across the United States, and how we can use our ingenuity to design safer structures that are also better for the environment.

Content I developed spurred a new $25,000 gift from a company which became a repeat sponsor. In-house evaluation concluded that visitors came away with an understanding of the main climate change and sustainability messages told in the exhibition.
